FAQ - BX e-generaattorit

Initial Setup

BX e-Generator must always be started for the first time without any connected loads, generator, or mains power. However, a planned PV system can already be connected at this stage.

Activation:

  1. Turn the EMERGENCY STOP switch slightly to the left and release it.
  2. Set the main switch to ON.
  3. The device will start, fans will begin to spin, switching sounds will be heard, and the display will show the startup screen.
  4. Wait until the display shows “Overview” or “Tiles” view, and the warning triangle in the top right corner disappears.
Changing Generator or Mains Power Settings

To access the inverter settings, select:

  • BX18 and larger models: Select “Quattro 48/10000/140-2×100”
  • BX12 and smaller models: Select “MultiPlus 48/5000/70”

Then navigate to INPUT POWER LIMITATION and adjust the value to match the power of your generator or allowable mains power.

Storage and Winter Storage

Before storing or winterizing, fully charge the BX e-Generator! Charge the device using mains power or a generator for several hours. The displayed battery level is an estimated calculation and may not always reflect the actual battery state. Once charging is complete, turn off the device using the main switch.

If the device will not be used for an extended period (more than 2 weeks), it must be recharged regularly (at least every 4 weeks). To extend its lifespan, store the device indoors whenever possible.

Startup After Storage or Winter Storage

Store the device in an area with low humidity (below 70% relative humidity, no condensation) and an ambient temperature of -10°C to 30°C.

Before using the device, allow it to remain at the installation location for at least 6 hours to prevent condensation-related electronic damage.

Using the Device in Summer

If exposed to strong sunlight and ambient temperatures exceed 40°C, it is recommended to provide shade with a canopy. If the environmental and technical conditions specified on the type plate cannot be met, the BX e-Generator must not be used.

Overheating

Blocked or insufficient ventilation, high ambient temperature, or excessive load can cause the internal components to overheat. The device will automatically reduce power until normal conditions are restored.

If the temperature rises above 55°C or falls below -15°C, the BX e-Generator will shut down automatically. The device will restart only when the temperature returns to between -10°C and 50°C.

Internal Temperature Too High

Operating in a highly dusty environment can lead to premature clogging of filter mats, increasing the temperature of the BX e-Generator’s electronics. This may result in the device reducing power or shutting down completely.

Actions:

  • Check air filters regularly, especially in dusty conditions (as often as weekly if needed).
  • Inspect and clean all intake filters as per the instructions.
  • Replace heavily contaminated or damaged filter mats.
IT Protection Trip

Perform an insulation test according to the user manual if using an IT system. If the test does not proceed as instructed, immediately turn off the BX e-Generator (press the emergency stop button) and contact a qualified electrician to identify and fix the fault.

The BX e-Generator must only be used again once the fault has been rectified and insulation monitoring is functioning normally.

RCD Tripped in TNS Network

Test the residual current device (RCD) according to the user manual (only for TN-S devices).

Procedure:

  1. Ensure the RCD is switched on and BX e-Generator is set to “I”.
  2. Press the “T” button. The RCD should switch to the “off” position (marked “O”).
  3. If the test is successful, switch the RCD back to “I”.

The BX e-Generator is now ready for use.

No Connection to Monitoring Portal

Check the GSM/LTE reception on the startup screen. If there is no reception, check the location and, if necessary, restart the BX e-Generator.

BX e-Generator Not Charging When Connected to Diesel Generator

Check the following:

  • Is the BX e-Generator turned off?Solution: Turn it on.
  • Is the emergency stop button activated?Solution: Release the button.
  • Are the batteries full?Solution: No action needed.
  • Has the generator input fuse blown?Solution: Check the error, fix it, and restart the device.
  • Has insulation monitoring detected a fault?Solution: Identify and fix the fault, then restart the device.
  • Is the input cable’s rotation direction incorrect?Solution: A qualified electrician should verify and adjust the rotation direction to clockwise.
BX e-Generator Not Supplying Output Power

The MobilHybrid function works only when a jumper wire is placed on pins 3 and 5 of the AUX1 connector (for charging via mains power or standalone use).

Without the AUX1 connector, the device will not operate, and the outputs will remain off.

Connecting PV Modules

The BX e-Generator can be connected to up to 21 standard solar panels with a peak power of 250-400 watts each.

  • The permissible PV system output voltage is 60-150 V and must remain within this range under all radiation and temperature conditions.
  • The BX e-Generator has 4 PV inputs, each with a maximum current of 20 A.
  • All inputs share a Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) for optimal PV system utilization.

Compatible cable connectors: Phoenix Contact SunClix (Product numbers: 1774687 and 1774674).

BX e-Generator Not Starting, Deep Discharge

If the battery voltage drops below 43V per battery unit, charging is no longer possible, and only the bypass function remains active.

You can temporarily override the undervoltage protection for 15 minutes by pressing the “ABS_Off” button. Ensure that a three-phase power source with a clockwise rotating field is connected to the generator or mains input.

Once completed, the BX e-Generator will return to normal operation.

Overload Situation

If an overload or short circuit occurs on the output, the inverters will shut down for a few seconds and then restart. If this happens three times in a row, the inverters will shut down completely.

Actions:

  1. Turn off and restart the BX e-Generator using the main switch.
  2. The cause of the overload must be identified and corrected by a qualified electrician before resuming use.
Diesel Generator Runs Unusually Long

To maximize battery life, the device is programmed to request maintenance operation every 21 days. This means that the generator will run for 6 hours at a time and fully charge the battery.
