Portable Air Cooler Improved Working Conditions in a Brewery

  • Two breweries in Denmark improved workplace conditions by introducing portable Rex Nordic air coolers.
  • In the humid bottling area, the air cooler reduced heat stress and increased operator comfort.
  • In the warehouse and packing area, two units improved air circulation and provided cooling across a wider area, while a larger model added extra capacity in a high-ceiling hall.
  • Employee feedback was clear: heat load decreased, work felt lighter, and comfort improved during hot periods.
  • Evaporative cooling is a low-maintenance, hygienic, and environmentally friendly solution that uses only water and can reduce air temperature by up to 12 °C, depending on conditions.

Working conditions in industrial production and warehouse environments are closely linked to temperature, employee well-being, and occupational safety. In breweries, heat and high humidity often combine with processes where staff work for long periods in fixed positions. In Denmark, two breweries sought to improve these conditions by testing Rex Nordic’s portable cooling technology.

Based on user experiences, a correctly positioned portable air cooler can significantly improve local working conditions, even in facilities where cooling the entire hall is not feasible or economically justified.

Air Cooler Performs Effectively in a Humid Bottling Area

The first application was located at a brewery bottling line, where the environment is naturally warm and humid. High humidity results from process steam, washing and cleaning cycles, and open water points in production. In addition, heat generated by machinery increases the thermal load, particularly near the line operator.

A REX14000 air cooler was introduced at the workstation to improve air movement and provide a clearly noticeable cooling effect in the working area. According to user feedback, the air cooler reduced heat stress and made the work noticeably more comfortable, even though the space was humid and thermally demanding.

At the bottling line, the REX14000 is operated without a water connection, functioning primarily by increasing air movement and improving local comfort. Even without active evaporative cooling, the unit has provided clear relief for the operator working in the warm and humid process environment.

Because the same device functions both as an air cooler and a fan, it can be used flexibly in different work areas without permanent installations or the need to cool the entire hall.

Air Cooler in the Warehouse – Cooling and Improved Airflow

The second installation was in the brewery’s warehouse and packing area, where temperatures occasionally rose to uncomfortable levels, especially during the summer and peak delivery periods. Two REX14000 air coolers were deployed to provide cooling across a wider working area and to improve air circulation inside the hall.

The site also tested a larger REX25000 model, designed to increase airflow capacity and support more even cooling in the high-ceiling warehouse space. The test results were so positive that the customer decided to purchase the REX25000 unit for permanent use.

In this brewery, the air coolers are almost always operated with water enabled to maximize the evaporative cooling effect. While the customer does not measure a clear overall temperature drop across the entire hall, the cooling effect is clearly felt at specific workstations.

This is especially noticeable at the wrapping station, where the REX25000 supports work carried out on top of a wrapping machine that is more than two floors high. According to the users, the cooling significantly improves working comfort at height, where heat tends to accumulate.

Employee feedback was consistent:

  • heat load decreased
  • work felt lighter
  • comfort during hot periods improved significantly

The results were summed up in one statement: “The employees are satisfied.”

Why an Air Cooler Is Well Suited for Industrial Use

The Rex Nordic air cooler is based on evaporative cooling, where cooling is produced naturally using water. Air is drawn through wet cooling pads, and as the water evaporates, the air temperature can be reduced by up to 12 °C, depending on conditions. This improves the working climate without chemicals or refrigerants. The same device functions as both a cooling unit and a fan, increasing air movement and reducing heat load in work areas.

The unit is hygienic and easy to use: a UV light prevents bacterial growth in the water, and the system requires only water and mains power—no permanent installation or complex maintenance. The solution is eco-friendly and energy-efficient, as cooling is achieved through a natural evaporation process.

The air cooler is particularly effective in environments where:

  • cooling the entire hall is not practical
  • doors and loading bays are frequently open
  • the indoor air volume is large
  • traditional air-conditioning would be technically or financially challenging

Experiences from the brewery sites highlight key benefits:

  • portable and flexible cooling solution
  • no need for permanent installations
  • usable across multiple work areas within the same facility
  • low energy consumption and a natural cooling method

The Same Benefits Apply to Other Process Environments

The brewery cases show that a portable air cooler is especially effective in environments where heat is generated by processes, equipment, or continuous work at fixed stations, and where cooling the entire building is not a realistic solution. Similar challenges are common across many industrial and production settings.

Typical comparable use cases include:

  • packaging and filling lines, where moisture, cleaning processes, and machinery heat combine
  • food and beverage processing areas, where air exchange is limited and thermal load concentrates around workstations
  • warehousing and distribution spaces, where doors remain open and temperatures fluctuate
  • maintenance and repair areas, where employees work close to heat-producing equipment

In these environments, a REX air cooler offers a practical way to improve working conditions without refrigerants, without fixed installations, and with low energy consumption—exactly where the heat load occurs.
